N.M.S. 62th Annual STEM FAIR
Wednesday March 20th, 2019
5:30-6:30 pm in the Media Center
Calling all young scientists! It's time for the Nichols Middle School 60th annual science fair! All students are encouraged to participate by working on a science project and displaying it proudly at the fair for the world to see. Below are the basic guidelines, and be sure to check out the rest of the website for more details.
Open to All (individual and groups)
Science Fair is no longer a mandatory part of the 7th grade curriculum. All Nichols Middle School students will be able to participate if they choose. This will be a voluntary activity that will be monitored through DIAL. You may submit a proposal with a friend.
Students may partner up and work on a project together.
Project Focus
This year we have allowed all grades to enter any of the categories listed below.
Research/Illustrative Project. You will illustrate a scientific concept based upon your research.
Inventions(Engineering Design/ Technology Build) are solutions to problems that were developed using the steps of the Engineering Design Process
Controlled Experiment. Your work will reflect the results of an experiment you conducted (testing a hypothesis using Scientific Method Steps)
Plant Science Controlled Experiment projects prove a theory related to plant growth and agriculture.
Looking For Ideas ?

Deadline
In order to be eligible, students must complete an on-line Science Fair proposal that is then approved by their science teacher.
Projects should be student driven.
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic.
